POP's traveled to Oscar's this week to face Hai Yan's Tosser's - one of the few teams in the league with nearly as many women as POP's.
With a strong 120 open in the first team game, Wes opened a lead that the Tosser's couldn't close, mostly because POP's girls were throwing a bunch of lucky triple 18's, allowing POP's to take the first game and the early point lead when Joy tossed in a double 4 on her first dart.
All the games in both rounds of singles were close. Wes got lucky in both singles games: In the first game, after missing a 118 close by just a bit, Martin missed an 86 close by a hair allowing Wes a second chance at his double, and then, against Hai Yan in the second single manged to pull out a close win -- in spite of her taking a page directly from POP's game plan - blantant attempts at distracting her opponent!!!
Daryll keep getting into marathon tries for double one but somehow managed to finally close both his singles in about the time it took to smoke a pack of cigarettes and down 2-3 pints.
Joy and Vivian also managed a singles victory each making the singles round an even split at 6/6.
Going into doubles POP's held a small lead at 7:6
Oscar's turned up the heat in doubles with the 1 and 2 teams of Martin/Yuna and Gregor/Sherry both winning against Vivian/Joy and Daryll/Iris making the score 10:7 in favor of Tosser's and putting the pressure on Wes/Angela to keep POP's in the match. Some great darts from Angela helped POP's take the third doubles and make MM the decider for night.
POP's again took the early lead by closing 20's, scoring 20 and hitting a lucky triple. To be honest, POP's hit more than their fair share of lucky triples and doubles early in the match and making it hard for the Tosser's to score but Tosser's did close 17's and scored at will on them for a while making things closer.
Some skill did come into play when near the end of the game Tracy finished off by throwing in 2 bulleyes to finish the game and give POP's their second victory of the season.
Difficult to pick MVP's from either team as just about everyone added at least one "w" to their side and contributed something in the team games.
On a personal note: I managed to avoid Tequilla and other "demon alcohols" and keep to pints of beer so a much more dignified night than last Tuesday!
