Match Reports - Week 18 - 15th. Jul. 2008

Tuesday POP's faced the POWER - one of the best teams in the league with very surprizing results at the Yeeha Bar. First team game Tommy was closer to the bull than Wes and opened with a score of 40 with Wes following up with a score of 60 to get the game quickly underway. The Power took an early lead but POP's stayed in contention until the very end but unfortunately fell down on the double and Power closed quickly to take the first point. Singles started out poorly for POP's with Wes losing a close one to Tommy and Joy and Iris following with good darts but no win. In the last 3 first round singles matches Tracy and Vivian finally put a couple of "w"'s on POP's side of the scoresheet. The second round of singles went a bit better with a 3-3 split of the games. Score after singles stood at: 8:5 in favor of The Power. Here I have to say that Tommy and especailly Lu both went very much out of their way to give their female opponents a chance in their singles games. I wasn't watching every throw but I am pretty sure that Lu decided that he would throw at double/double for the win - meaning 2 - double 10's instead of a double 20. In both his games that put him shooting at double 1 for a finish and actually cost him his second singles game against Tracy. No doubt that Tracy threw excellent darts in that game and she did close quickly when she got down to doubles and she deserved the win. I also have to admit that I was not as much of a gentleman when I played my second round game against Jacklin. Anyway, after singles POP's still had a long shot at a win if we could do well in doubles. Iris and Joy dropped the first game against Tommy and King making things look even tougher but Wes and Joann managed to sneak past Karl and Steven in their match while Tracy and Vivian through excellent darts to win their doubles match against Wang and Jacklin! Score after doubles: 9:10 in favor of The Power. Once again making MM the decider for the night. For once Wes came closer to the bull and started by closing 20's. Tommy followed up with only 2 - 20's giving Joy a chance to put the first point on the board but no go there. The Power then took the point lead after closing 18's and scoring 54. POP's made a valiant run, closing doubles before the Power but with no bulls to thier 3 we just couldn't get the scoring done. (Joy and Tracy both barely missing double 20's to hit a double 5 and double 1 and adding 12 points instead of 80) POP's closed bulls to shut down Power's ability to score but behind over 80 points we couldn't seem to score on the doubles before the Power hit their final 2 doubles to end the game and take the match. A very fun night and I really appreciate the excellent sportsmanship shown by the entire Power team - not only in singles but also with Lu sitting out the doubles to allow thier two female players to match up against 2 of POP's girls. It certianly made it a much more fun for my girls and they were all proud to have taken 9 points from a team in the top 5 in the league! Thanks Power!!!!! MVP's for the night: For POP's Tracy takes the MVP this week for winning both singles and her doubles and a 100 with many other scores in the 80's. For Power - what can you say - almost all of them are hard to beat and they combined for a total of 18 - tons and 2- 140's! Wes July 15, 2008
