August 5th brought Wes's POP's team to Oscar's to face off against Paul C's Smokie's.
Colin started out closest to the bull and opened the first team game with a 40 "check in" while POP's once again had to rely on Vivian for their double in after Wes's 3 misses.
First team game was close down where both teams had around 200 points and then Smokie's ran away with it to finish before POP's had a shot at the double. First point to Smokie's.
The first round of singles were all well played and close with a marathon game between Angela and Jenny giving Wes time to finish a couple of beers but ending, finally, in favor of Jenny with a double 1. First round was split 3:3 keeping the score close at 4:3 in favor of Smokie's.
Match ups for the second round of singles were a bit lopsided but most were still fairly close games with Smokie's taking 4 of 6.
Score after singles: 8:5 in favor of Smokie's.
Doubles: Colin/Matt team was just too tough for Joy/Angela and they took the first doubles game handily. Colin was on with the high scores last night with 5 - 100's and 1 - 140 and with more 80+ scores that I could count.
Tracy/Vivian vs. Greg/Jenny was a good match up and a very close game that came down to who could hit thier double first. Unfortunately for POP's it was the Smokie's team who snuck in their double 1 before POP's could find the spot.
With the score now 12:5, Smokie's had locked in another win, keeping them solidly in the middle of the pack.
Wes/Joanna did manage a win against Paul/Piroska although even with Wes starting the game out with his first 180 of the season it did come down to doubles in the end.
I'd like to say that MM was a close game and well contested but when Wes couldn't close 20's on the opening throw, Colin took advantage of the poor throw by closing 20's and scoring 20. From there it was pretty much all down hill for POP's.
Smokies were over 200 points ahead, with all the numbers and the triple closed while POP's was still looking to close 15's, 16's and 17's! As much improved as POP's girls have gotten (And I was proud to have a couple of the Smokie's team mention how surprised they were by how tough my girls were playing!) we are still having trouble in the MM.
I blame my poor darts during MM on Michelle (Yeeha team). She got me so flustered that I even forgot to do the "Give me a P.... POP's cheer at the end of the night!!!!
MVP of the night: Smokie's has to go to Colin with his 5 tons and 140 with Jenny close behind him with wins in her singles and doubles games.
For POP's: Joanna, Joy and Tracy all had wins in their singles and threw some great darts but I am going to throw my name in the mix this week with 3 "w"'s and a 180.
Anyway, as always a good night of league darts against a fun team. As usual, Oscar's put out a nice selection of finger foods and although the downstairs is a bit tight I have always enjoyed Oscar's as a dart venue.
PS: POP's is losing a couple of players in the next 2-3 weeks and we are looking for 1 or 2 replacements. We are looking for people who want to have fun, can relax, are open minded and who enjoy drinking. Skill level is not important. In fact, serious darters need not apply!
