Match Reports - Week 9 - 13rd. May. 2008

:: Report week 9 POP's vs The Mix ::

Week 9 saw POP's facing last years league Champions - The Mix. What can I say? It was a tough night for POP's.

The first team game Wes doubled in on the first dart and POP's took a very early lead but the Mix quickly answered and won the 1001 handily.

Wes and Jason playing the first singles matches against Balance and Scorpion both had point leads but failed to double out quickly and lost - as did POP's girls in the next 4 matches.

Second round of singles POP's did not fare much better picking up only one win.

After singles the match was already decided with the score 12:1 in favor of the mighty MIX.

Wes and Jason reached doubles first in their game against Balance and Scorpion but failed to hit that pesky double 12 and Balance shut the door by calmly checking out an 89 score with 2 darts.

Tracy and Vivian played very well in their doubles match against ARJ-21 (Does anyone know what that stands for??? "A Real Joker"? "Artifically Risen Jockies"? - NEver mind-it's not important)

Tracy tossed in both her "tons" during the doubles game and both her and Vivian kept the pressure up and finally won the game with a single shot double by Tracy! Best game for POP's last night by far!

Before going on I just want to mention that Phil - THE POWER - Hanna, was just outright mean to both Vivian and Tracy last night. Playing the best darts I've ever seen him throw (Drunk or sober) he just didn't even give them a chance at victory. Calmly tossing in 100's, 140's and a multitude of 80+ scores he was unbeatable last night. After trouncing tow of my wives like that he is never getting that brownie recipy I promised him!!! Down 16 to 3 POP's girls were fired up and really wanting a face saving win at MM.

Wes started out strong by closing 20's and scoring 20. Balance hit only 1 - 20 BUT managed a "lucky" triple. Jason added another 20 points to POP's side but once again the Mix hit a single 20 - a tripe 20 (Which Balance sneakily and with obvious precognition convince Phil to use as a triple instead of closing 20's) which added to yet another LUCKY LUCKY triple closed them out.

Vivian followed with 40 more points and a luck triple of her own putting POP's up by 80 points and only 1 triple away from closing.

Then, my EX-old friend Phil the Power, stood in front of the board, closed his eyes and, trying to impress some young female "student" who was looking for a "tutor" tossed in 3 (YES THREE!!!) Triple 20's.

Expecting applause Phil turned around only to find the new students hurrying away - obviously frightened by a man who could put three objects as big as darts into a hole as small as the triple twenty - with his eyes closed!!

Having gone up by 100 points the Mix were in already starting to celebrate but POP's hung firm and determined. Quickly closing 19's and 18's ahead of the Mix - POP's came back and took the point lead somewhere around 200. Down near the end POP's had 15's closed with 16's open while the Mix had just the opposite and the point lead kept changing hands.

With POP's ahead by 15 points and with the numbers all closed now - Balance closed the bull with 3 darts. Once again the Mix took the lead - by 10 points - with another bulls eye but Wes quickly closed bulls and with 2 doubles to the Mix's none it was looking good for POP's to save face.

Needing only 2 doubles to close and score for the win POP's just couldn't follow through. The Mix showed why they are champs when it took them only 6 darts to finish off their doubles and take the win: 293 to 283.

by far the best MM game POP's team has thrown all season!

MVP's for the night:

As much as I hate him now - have to say Phil for the Mix. His throws were spot on all night in every game he played including quick doubles to close his games.

For POP's: Have to split the trophy between Tracy and Vivian. Tracy with 2 - 100's and Vivian with great darts combining for a win in their doubles game!

Fun night followed by dice and too many beers!
