Dart Safety Guidelines

Darts can have a maximum overall length of 30.5 cm and can weight up to a maximum weigh of 50 grams. Most darts used are much smaller and lighter; however they all have a sharp point.

When a player is throwing and everyone is at a safe distance accidents are very unlikely to happen, however most accidents involve a combination of anger, alcohol, stupidity and the above mentioned sharp point, which can penetrate the skull or destroy an eye.

The general rule for everyone is to keep a safe distance.

The Player:
Before you throw the darts make sure nobody is in the way:
Wait for the other player to retrieve his / her darts
Wait for the scorer until he / she is finished checking the score
Watch out for any bystanders / by passers

Don't throw your darts with extreme force. If you are able to catch them when they bounce out, you are throwing far too hard.

When you bust do not throw any more darts (also called practice darts). These are often thrown in anger and much harder, whilst at the same time most unexpected for the scorer or anybody else.

The Scorer:
The scorer should keep a safe distance from the board. When checking the score he/she should make sure the player is not throwing any darts. Don't check the score midway in a throw.
